US and UK speed limits are in mph while most of the world posts km/h. 25 mph is 40.2 km/h, 55 mph is 88.5, and 75 mph is 120.7. Wind speeds, cycling computers and car speedometers use both.
Rounding 1.6 matters near limits: 70 mph is 112.7 km/h, but 70 × 1.6 gives 112. Do not confuse speed with distance units: 1 mph is 1.609 km/h, not 1.609 km.
The first UK speed limits, set in 1865 under the Locomotive Act, were 4 mph in the country and 2 mph in towns.
